Drug Court
We support the wider use of drug courts to handle the overwhelming number of arrested addicts, many of whom are also small volume dealers supporting their habit. Judges are in a position to determine which of the offenders they work with might be amenable to treatment. Drug courts should be adequately funded to provide effective in-patient and out-patient treatment for addicted offenders, with adequate long-term follow-up testing backed up by the credible threat of incarceration.
