CAM Kicks Off Recovery Month with Forum
September 2009
Concerned citizens of Calhoun/Gordon County came out on September 1st for CAM’s Community Forum. The event was in recognition of the 20th anniversary of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. The focus of the program was Meth and how it’s impacting Gordon County. The forum included a diverse panel, including Dr. John Bledsoe (Calhoun Counseling Center), Jim Langford (Georgia Meth Project), Catherine Schueman (Highland Rivers), Melissa Knight (Gordon County Drug Court), Chief Deputy Sheriff Robert Paris (Gordon County Sheriff’s Office), Sgt. Jay Marquez (Calhoun Police Department), Beth Bowen (Former Meth Addict), and James Caito (Former Addict).
During his presentation, Jim Langford, Executive Director of the Georgia Meth Project shared some startling facts about Meth. For example, Meth abuse costs Georgia $1.3 billion a year; 51% of people entering treatment for Meth abuse in Georgia are between the ages of 12 and 25.
