CAM Addresses Drugs Don't Work Committee
November 2009CAM Project Director, Latrina Patrick, was recently appointed by the Gordon County Commission to represent Gordon County on the Region One Division of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Planning Board (DBHDD). Each of Georgia's five DBHDD regions has a regional planning board, a volunteer citizen board appointed by county commissioners, to help identify local needs and recommend priorities for services to the division and the regional office. They are the official voice for consumers and their families in local planning.
The Region One Planning Board represents 25 counties in the region. Members are business and civic leaders with a strong interest in mental health, developmental disabilities and addictive diseases as well as consumers or family members of consumers. The role of the Regional Planning Board is to give a voice to consumers and their families and other citizens in the region in assessing needs and recommending priorities for DBHDD services. The board makes recommendations about services and works with the regional office to develop an annual plan. Planning board members stay informed about local needs and issues and serve as advocates with public officials.
Volunteer Spotlight
Micki Demille, featured to the right with her grandchildren, is this month’s Volunteer of the Month. Micki is an avid supporter of CAM. She volunteers her time to serve at community events as needed. Most recently, Micki was instrumental in CAM’s ability to host the Community Forum during National Recovery Month. She crocheted a beautiful blanket we raffled off to a lucky winner at the forum and worked the event. So, for your commitment to CAM, we say THANK YOU!

The Region One Planning Board for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, in partnership with Citizens Against Meth is sponsoring a Town hall Meeting to solicit community input on how to improve Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in Gordon County and North Georgia. The purpose of the meeting is to gather information from the general public, including consumers who are recipients of mental health and substance abuse services, to identify any service gaps. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities will include this information in their annual plan and share it with state legislators as they prepare to allocate funds for Mental Health and Substance Abuse services in the upcoming budget.
